Customizable SportsBall Keychains - built with help from AI
This is an OpenSCAD script for making custom team keychains. It handles Baseball, Softball, Basketball, and Tennis automatically. It’s designed for multi-color printing (AMS/MMU), but you can print it in one color too. By setting different heights for each element, you can additionally add simulated multi-color printing through manual filament changes at layer heights.
What it does:
- Pick a Sport: It automatically swaps colors and lacing styles for you.
- Customize Names: Put in a name and jersey number with selections for Coach / Player that automatically adds / removes Jersey numbers from the keychain.
- Fit Long Names: Use the "Squeeze" and "Stretch" settings to keep long names from hitting the laces.
- No More Color Bleeding: I added settings to change the height of each layer so the text stays clean and doesn't blend into the ball colors.
How to get it to print right:
If you are using a multi-color printer (Bambu, Creality K1, etc.), follow these steps to make sure your slicer sees the separate pieces:
- In OpenSCAD: Set the EXPORT_MODE to Base. Hit F6, then Export as STL.
- Repeat: Do this for Ball, Laces, and Text until you have 4 files.
- Import: Drag all 4 files into your slicer at the same time.
- The Popup: When it asks "Load these files as a single object?", click YES.
- Assign Colors: Just click the parts in your "Objects" list and pick your filament slots.
Note on Alignment:
- When you export the individual sections for MMS/AMS print, make sure you render each section separately before export.
- After importing all 4 files into your slicer, the base might be slightly offset because of the keychain loop. Simply select the Base part and manually nudge it until the ball sits centered on the plate.
Print Tips:
- Ironing: Turn on "Ironing" for the top surfaces if you want it to look super smooth.
- Heights: If the colors are still bleeding, use the dropdowns to make the Text height taller than the Laces height.
