I used this in constructing a present for a friend in combination with the Skull With Pointed Teeth, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:31998.
By modifying the OpenSCAD source, I removed the lamp holder, hollowed out most of the main base, and relocated the cord hole slightly. This gave me more room for electronics and wiring for LED's inserted directly into the skull. I placed red 3mm LEDs inside a 10% fill directly behind the eyes which worked really, really well. I also scattered some slow color changing LED's throughout the rest of the skull; I placed switches for both of those effects in the hollow base.
Unfortunately, I stupidly forgot to take some pics before delivery.
I made the enlarged hollow roomy enough for an Arduino Micro, Nano, or Teensy, so I'm planning to go with Neopixels for general lighting on my next build, with 5mm RGB LEDs connected to PWM pins for illuminating the eyes.
