Note: This is a work in progress. It adds Qi compatible wireless charging to the Malahit DSP2 SDR receiver without requiring any mechanical or electrical modifications aside from removing and replacing the stock back cover. This version is fully functional but may evolve as I try to add an integral kickstand. I will also upload some photos when I get to it.
This replacement back includes provision for mounting a Qi coil and board internally, purchased on Amazon. The coil and board come with a foil sticker that helps magnetically isolate the coil from the magnetic effects of the battery.... don't lose it ;) I lay the foil on the coil and then add a thin piece of foam that gets sandwiched between the battery and the coil. It helps to tape things in place so they don't move as you install the back. The wires to the USB-C plug are routed out the side of the cover next to the USB-C socket. If you need the USB port for something, just unplug the charger until done.
The original screws will work with the new back, but they are not recessed since I could not reliably print the flat bottom recesses. This back was designed for 2.5mm flat head screws (easy to print) that sit slightly below the surface of the rear cover.
The circuit connects to the radio via the radio's USB-C connector and requires no internal modifications. I replaced the wires that came with the board (too short anyway) with some 26ga silicon wire. The USB-C plug is also from Amazon. It is a bit tall for my liking, and I have some lower profile plugs coming from Aliexpress. I'll update when they arrive. I also plan on designing and printing a small cap to cover the exposed end of the USB-C plug and will add it to this page when done.
While charging, there is some minor RF interference on some frequencies (mostly on the 10M ham band) but in general it is pretty quiet. It almost disappears when the battery is near full charge. Charge current seems to run about 0.5A. This is lower than expected (assumed due to the proximity to the battery) but gets the job done.
