In the 12th century, the monks of Glastonbury Abbey conducted an excavation with the intention of finding the remains of King Arthur. They claimed to have found two skeletons buried beneath a leaden cross on the Glastonbury Tor.

Today historians doubt the authenticity of the monks’ findings. But the leaden cross was indeed a real object. An image of it was engraved in a book in 1607, but the cross, itself, has been lost since the 18th century.

I made my own miniature replica from that engraving. Not perfect, but I still like it. The Latin inscription, roughly translated, is, “Here lies buried the renowned King Arthur in the isle of Avalon.”
