The hinge cam riser is the mechanism by which a refrigerator door will stay open at a certain position, and automatically continue closing once closed a certain amount. These are installed in pairs over the lower hinge pin, with one attached to the door and one attached to the main unit.
I designed this to replace the upper hinge cam on the left (freezer) door of a Samsung model RSG257AARS/XAC (part number DA66-00558B). Unfortunately, my 3d printed version immediately failed. This may have been partly due to carelessness during re-installation of the door (my popsicles were melting!) Given that the OEM replacement part cost less than a dollar, though, I couldn't justify taking another chance on my "approximation", which was based on photos of the replacement part from online parts catalogs. Indeed, having received the OEM part, I see that the profile of the cam is not a simple sinusoid as I had assumed.
The included .STL file is the version for my specific application. By using the Customizer, however (or by downloading the .scad file and opening it in OpenSCAD), you can adjust the dimensions to create a custom part for your specific needs.
This model could potentially be used for cabinet door hinges, or as a detent mechanism for a rotary control.
Edit (2025-12-26): My initial version built the cam ring out of a large number of infinitesimally thin cubes. This was sufficient for my purposes but resulted in a less than optimal model. Inspired by the comment left by Bikecyclist, I decided to make another attempt, this time modeling the cam ring as a polyhedron.
