# Ender 3 V2 Spool Holder Extension (for Larger Spools)

A simple push-in extension for the stock Ender 3 V2 spool holder that lets you run larger filament spools without them slipping off and crashing onto your build plate.

It snaps in with printed springs and pulls out just as easily — no extra hardware on the printer side.

## Compatibility

This is designed for the plain Ender 3 V2 — not the V2 Neo, Pro, Max, or other variants, which use different holders.

## Spool fit

Works with spools that have:

- A hole diameter of at least 50 mm

- A length of up to ~115 mm

That's enough to run 2.3 kg spools (e.g. 3DJake ASA).

## How it works

Just push it into the stock holder — the printed springs on the end lock it in place. To remove it, compress the spring and pull it out. That's it.

## Mounting position (important)

This is mainly intended for the spool mounted on the front of the Z frame, which suits direct drive extruders.

You can run it on the rear, but you'd have to slide it all the way to the right to clear the Z lead screw — and that puts the filament at an awkward feed angle for the stock (Bowden) extruder. So front-mount is the sweet spot here.

## What you'll need

- 2× M3 × 12 mm bolt (or slightly longer)

- 2× M3 nut

## Printing

- Print the STL twice.

- Lay the parts with the flat sides down — this orientation makes the springs strong enough to hold.

## Assembly

1. Screw the two halves together using a nut on one side and a bolt on the other at each of the two holes.

2. Hold each nut down while you tighten its bolt so it doesn't just spin in place.

Alternatively, you can skip the hardware and just glue the two halves together — the joint doesn't take much load.

## Print settings

You don't need much strength here. The extension doesn't carry the weight of the spool — it's mostly there to stop larger spools from sliding off the holder. So feel free to print it light; standard settings are fine.
