Mini Assembly Excavator 3D Printing Model
I. Design Inspiration
This is a realistic, small-scale tracked excavator assembly model, consisting of three independent component sets: the tracked chassis, the cab body, and the movable digging arm. Hinged pivot joints enable the bucket to pitch and swing, faithfully reproducing the look of construction machinery. It can serve as an engaging children’s toy, a desktop ornament, or a hands-on teaching aid for mechanical transmission principles. Its straightforward assembly structure makes it ideal for beginners in 3D printing.
II. 3D Printing Process
All components are printed using PLA filament. The entire model features fully rounded edges with no sharp corners, and the tracks are integrally molded without requiring separate parts. The hinge pivot holes are designed with a 0.1 mm clearance for smooth movement, while minimizing large overhanging surfaces; only the tip of the bucket requires minimal support. After printing, the parts can be directly snapped together without the need for additional screws or fasteners.
III. Structure and Function
The model employs a modular snap‑together design, allowing the digging arm to move freely up and down to simulate digging motions. The one-piece tracked chassis provides stable placement and resists tipping. With its compact size, this mini excavator is lightweight yet sturdy, accurately capturing the silhouette of a real excavator—making it suitable both as a decorative desktop piece and as a tool for demonstrating the kinematics of hinged linkages.
