Design Concept
This downlight cutting template is designed as a precise and practical radius gauge for accurately marking circular cut-outs in ceilings. The tool uses fixed radius reference holes measured from a central pivot point, allowing consistent and repeatable layout of downlight openings. Diameter values are clearly marked for reference, while the actual working dimension is the radius, ensuring correct final cut size. The slim, rounded form provides strength, ease of handling, and convenient storage.
Print Settings
Printed in PLA for ease of printing and sufficient rigidity for layout work.
Recommended settings:
• Layer height: 0.20 mm (0.10 mm optional for finer text detail)
• Infill: 20%
• Perimeters: 3–4 walls
• Material: PLA
• Supports: Not required
• Bed adhesion: Brim recommended for best adhesion on larger prints
The model is designed to print flat on the build plate with no overhangs requiring support.
Assembly & Use
No assembly required. All holes are sized for M4 fasteners.
To use the template, secure an M4 screw or pin through the centre hole to establish the pivot point. Insert a second M4 screw or marking pin into the selected radius hole and rotate the tool to mark a clean, accurate circle. The corresponding diameter value indicates the final cut size of the hole once completed.
This template is ideal for electricians, installers, and DIY users needing consistent, accurate downlight cut-outs with minimal setup time.
