This microscope extension was specifically designed for the Andonstar ADSM201 digital microscope, providing additional reach and flexibility. While it was designed around the ADSM201, many digital microscopes use similar mounting systems, and the included design files make it easy to adapt the model to other microscopes if needed.

Because there are many different microscope models on the market, I have included both the STEP and Fusion 360 (.f3d) files so that you can easily modify the design to fit your particular microscope or make any other changes you may need.

The design is modular and can be used in two different ways:

• Print a single extension and use it by itself to increase the reach of your microscope.

• Print two extensions and connect them together to create an articulating arm, giving you even greater range of motion and positioning flexibility.

Keep in mind, the stand will only handle extending things so far from the base.  If you need it to move farther out, you will have to secure your stand somehow.

Hardware Required

For each joint, you will need:

• 1 × M3 x 30 mm screw

• 1 × M3 hex nut

Assembly

1. Insert the M3 nut into the hex-shaped pocket in the end of the adjustment knob.

2. Press the included nut retainer insert into place. The insert is designed as a press fit and will securely capture the nut, preventing it from spinning during adjustment.

3. Press-fit the head of the M3 x 30 mm screw into the opposite side of the joint.

The screw head is intentionally designed as a tight press fit. The screw head may begin to rotate within the pocket while tightening or loosening the joint. However, once tightened, the joint should still provide enough clamping force to make accidental slipping difficult during normal use while allowing the arm to be repositioned when desired.  If you can't get it to keep from spinning before it secures your microscope, you may have to reduce the size of the hole.

Depending on your printer, filament, and print tolerances, minor adjustments to scaling or clearances may be necessary to achieve the desired fit.
