Summary
Instrument lamp post for dashboard.
If used in airplanes, of course experimental any use is on own risk.
You need a 5mm LED, a proper resistor for the voltage.
You can use a LED dimmer circuit if you wish.
I have used 4000mcd 20° led, a 1800mcd 30° would be just as good
Unshielded wire 22GA Tefzel, MIL-W-22759/16
A screw, MS35214-27, 6-32 thread, 1/2 inch long or whatever you need to mount it through your dashboard.
An electric wire eyelet to connect the ground cable to the screw body.
The screw is bored through down the middle with a 1,5mm drill.
It's not easy, but possible in a drill-press. First fix a piece of wood drill a 3,5mm hole into that.
You might need to use a router bit to center the hole in the wood, otherwise the drill can bend and drill a hole off-center.
Place the screw in the hole, keep it from rotating with pliers.
Drill a 1,5mm hole through the screw.
Use a sharp drill, drilling fluid, clean chips often.
Sand the head of the screw, put som soldering tin on it.
Solder the wire to the led + leg close to the LED
Assemble the led through the nr. 2 STL.
coil up the - leg of the LED, solder the end to the screw head.
Put the 22GA wire through the screw hole.
Glue a piece of copper or aluminium tape to the inside of the lamp shade.
Assemble the lamp post, test and give it a bit of glue to keep it together.
When mounted in the dashboard screw is the ground (-), wire is the (+).
Different color and intensity LEDS will vary the result.
